Denmark Euro 8 Coin Set

On 2 may 2000, the Danish government submitted a bill for an Act to Denmark's proposed participation in the Euro currency. Denmark's National Bank prepared sketches for the coin designs, which were published by the Danish government in a booklet in September 2000. The designs were published in Denmark's newspapers - including the (pro Euro) Berlingske Tidende.

The official sketches have been taken and updated to produce a pattern or prototype coin set to show exactly how Denmark's currency could look. The National Bank of Copenhagen have taken samples of the first coins and despatched them to the National Museum of Denmark

The 5, 2, and 1 cent pieces carry the Little Mermaid and crown of Denmark. Behind the mermaid is the Danish trading ship Viking (circa 1902). The 5 Euro 50 and 10 cent patterns have an uncrowned monarchic representation. The 20 cent features a dove. The reverse designs are those to represent commerce, peace and justice which were proposed to the European Commission as a replacement for Luc Luycx'a maps of Europe. A new Scandinavian longboat adorns the pattern 1 Euro and 2 Euro reverses.

The coins are supplied within an attractive blister pack. The pack contains an interesting history of the coins both in Danish and English.
