2003 UK Euro Coins Now in Stock Only 20,000 pattern sets have been commissioned and the issue has been a complete sell out. Permission has been granted by UK authorities to feature a superb new portrait of HM the Queen. New Reverse designs by Donald R. Golder have been proposed to the European Commission. Unofficial Patterns. On a number of previous occasions, especially before major coinage changes, pattern coins have been produced as a design exercise and / or to test public opinion in regard to the new coins. Many of these have been privately produced. This is such a set of trial / pattern / prototype euro coins, with suggested British designs. There are 1,2,5,10,20,50 cents, bimetallic 1 and 2 Euro coins, and a large 5 euro (coated in pure Gold) with a distinctive British design in keeping with the ruling that larger denominations of Euro coins will be solely for use in the country of issue.
